Shaping how we engage with AI.

Opening the conversationSkip opening

AI is getting more capable.
So should we.

Hey AI Foundation helps communities use AI to expand human capability while keeping judgment, ownership, and agency in human hands.

A finished answer is easier than ever.
Owning it is not.

AI can now produce polished, credible-looking work before the understanding behind it is truly yours. We call this Synthetic Competence: high-quality output without real ownership. If you cannot explain and defend the reasoning behind the result, the work may be strong, but it is not fully yours.

Hey AI Foundation exists to teach people, one community at a time, how to build and strengthen their own judgment so they can reconstruct, challenge, and own the work they produce with AI. The goal is not to use less AI. It is to make sure that as the machine becomes more capable, the person using it does too.

02 / What we believe

We believe in
Augmented Agency.

AI should increase what you can understand, examine, decide, and do while your judgment remains your own.

We call this Augmented Agency: using AI to expand your capabilities while staying at the point of judgment. The machine can carry more of the work, but the direction remains yours, the reasoning is something you can stand behind, and the consequences remain yours to answer for.

03 / The framework

A system for staying relevant when intelligence is abundant.

Keep the human at the point of judgment: where the direction of the work, the reasons behind it, and the consequences of being wrong meet.

The four parts below, plus continual learning, form the system for staying there as the ground keeps moving.

Framework: Understanding

Know what you’re driving.

Build a driver’s understanding of AI: what it is, what it can do, where it breaks, and what is at risk when it does, so you can set the right expectations and keep your judgment calibrated.

Framework: Interaction

Learn how to work with the machine.

Specify the work. Direct the machine. Evaluate what comes back. Iterate on what happens next.

Interaction is the skill of conducting that exchange so AI works from your intent, under your direction, toward a standard you can own.

Framework: The Base

Strengthen what you bring.

Critical Thinking tests both the answer and the standard used to judge it. Creativity looks beyond the common answer to what is worth making. Communication makes you the bridge between AI and the world: carrying purpose, judgment, context, and possibility into the exchange, then carrying work you own back out into the world.

AI can give almost anyone a competent answer. The Base is what allows you to go beyond it: stronger judgment, a wider sense of what is possible, and the ability to carry your intent into the work and out into the world.

Framework: Attitude

When the work looks finished, look up.

Build the reflex to look beyond a finished answer before moving on. Ask what could grow from it: stronger work, a new possibility, or something in you. Repeat that response until looking up becomes automatic. Judgment then decides whether anything more is needed.

We begin with students.

Building on the work and promise of Hey AI, Let’s Talk!, we incubated the AI Youth Alliance (AIYA) to serve a specific community: teenagers. AIYA is a student-centered program grounded in hands-on learning and student-led programming.

We are backing Ethan Moon, the program’s project champion, as he leads outreach to schools and community partners and helps the initiative grow. We intend to use this community-focused approach with other communities over time.

Human Reinvented

A Mental Model to Stay Relevant When Intelligence Is Abundant

Frank Ng, 2026

Every six months, 15% of the royalties received by Shamang Publishing for Human Reinvented will be donated to Hey AI Foundation.

Short description
A mental model for navigating a world in which AI can make competent work abundant. Human Reinvented asks what humans must continue to build, contribute, and own when producing a good answer is no longer enough to set us apart.

The writing

Thinking in public

Frank and Ryan Ng write regular columns for Hong Kong’s Sing Tao Daily and The Standard. Across the Chinese-language Father, Son & AI (AI父子兵) and English-language Human Reinvented series, they use current developments, everyday examples, and lessons from classrooms and professional life to explore how AI is changing learning, work, and society.

The columns continue the ideas developed in our books, each taking a specific question, case, or development and examining it in greater depth.
